There is so much going on in our bustling little town and the surrounding area, many places are just a drive away and perfect for a day out returning back to us for your dinner in the evening. Below is just a small selection of our favourites but you can speak to any of our knowledgeable staff for suggestions for your day ahead. FISHING THE SPEY
Grantown on Spey is perfectly placed for you to fish the Spey. We’ve got a wealth of information to help you plan your trip and can point you in the right direction of where to fish, who to speak to for local knowledge and even get you started with your own Ghillie. We can also cook your catch for your dinner!
THE WHISKY TRAIL
Grantown on Spey is in the heart of the Speyside whisky area and you’re in for a treat if a wee dram is your thing. We’ve put together lots of information on the Whisky Trail for you and don’t forget you can sample many a bottle in our Cocktail Lounge pre or post dinner in front of the fire in a cosy arm chair!
GOLF IN SCOTLAND
If golf is your thing we are perfectly place to give you access to a selection of courses all within an hours drive however, our obvious affiliation is with Grantown Golf Club that is just a short walk from the hotel. Ask our staff about golfing packages including dinner, accommodation and a round of golf at Grantown on Spey course.
Based just outside the town Craggan Outdoors has just about every activity you can imagine perfect for groups of friends, corporate away days or for some family fun choose from a variety of activities including archery, clay pigeon shooting, climbing, disc golf, gorge walking, kayaking, paintball and lots more.
A great year round destination for skiing in the winter months and mountain biking in the summer months. At 2090 feet above sea level you’ll maybe have heard about the infamous road between Tomintoul and Cockbridge which is one of the highest main roads in the UK.
The Lecht boasts 12 different lifts and you can hire equipment on site making this the perfect skiing destination!
Braemar, Ballater and the whole of Royal Deeside are accessible as a day trip from the Garth Hotel and this unique part of the world has so much on offer including Balmoral Castle the summer home of the Royal Family.
From munro bagging to historic castles to explore Royal Deeside has it all.
BOAT OF GARTEN
For birding enthusiasts out there you’ll know that ‘Boat’ is famously known as the Osprey Village and this is due to these birds reintroducing themselves in the 50s after completely dying out in the UK. Fabulous wildlife, lots of things to do, local shops and lovely coffee shops Boat of Garten makes a great day out when staying at The Garth.
Getting out and about around Grantown on Spey and the other local villages in the area is a great idea and Walkhighlands have got well over a hundred local routes all with detailed descriptions and mapping.
